Explore the area
We love Lake Tinaroo - it has a shoreline of over 200 kms and was created about 70 years ago to irrigate the fertile volcanic soils of the Atherton Tablelands. It is surrounded by a network of trails suitable for walking, birdwatching, hiking, and mountain biking. For the fishers, the lake is stocked with barramundi and sooty grunter - you need a permit to fish which can be obtained online. Only 10 minutes' drive from Paddock on Blake is Yungaburra, a beautiful village with heritage listed buildings, cafes, shops, and a vibrant monthly market.
Explore nature
Walk along Peterson's Creek from the bridge in Yungaburra and see playtpus, birds, and even rare mammals. We have spotted green ringtail possums and tree kangaroos near the creek over the years, and regularly see platypus playing in the water. A visit to the famous curtain fig tree just outside the village is recommended. You can also find amazing birdlife around all the crater lakes and waterfalls in the area.
Explore food and drink
The area boasts a rich variety of food, including cheese, chocolate and strawberries. It is famous for growing and roasting coffee as well. It's too hard to pick whether to visit Gallo Dairyland, Mungalli Dairy, or Nerada Tea, so try them all! We also recommend afternoon tea at Lake Barrine and a drive to the distillery at Mount Uncle and a pit stop at Kuranda village if you have time.
